I am looking at going for interior design. Does anyone know someone who has attended school there? The school is new, only about a year or so old. My understanding the school is currently building their program with the aide of the Ai Dallas Branch. The facilities are wonderful, and they are fully accredited. I understand it is expensive and have looked into other options in my area (state schools) but none would be possible for me to attend due to scheduling. I am looking for a career change and now would be the time to do it. I hold a BFA in Visual Studies (art ed) and a BFA in studio art in painting. I am currently a middle school art teacher and would have to take night courses. I am single with no other income other than my roommate who rents one room from my house each month. quitting work to go to school full time is not an option.

Reality is that even when you complete your very expensive training at AI, nobody is going to hire you with that credential. It may be fine for trust-fund beneficiaries and bored-spouses where there is another more than substantial income, but if you are single it is a foolish path with no rewards. Sorry to be a downer in this. You would be much better off getting your M.Educ., perhaps in a different teaching field.

They are quite expensive and even with Federal Aid you may still hoc up quite a bit of debt.

The other answerer is right, a lot of people hiring don't respect those degrees from schools like that much. They seem to think of them as a degree mills. Not to mention it will leave you with a ton of debt. I'm not sure what other options you have under your condition, other than get a master's. If your really set on being a interior designer the only other choice I can think of is go the route of self-study, or Jr college, it will take you almost the same amount of time a going to night college (and a lot cheaper). Once you get the knowledge you can freelance a few jobs for free or cheap and build a portfolio from there, and maybe someone will hire you based on that. And since you already have 2 art degrees you will still be respected in the interior design field. Either that or go into business for yourself if you are successful enough.
