calm and read this: 1976 U.S. outbreak On February 5, 1976, an army recruit at Fort Dix said he felt tired and weak. He died the next day and four of his fellow soldiers were later hospitalized. Two weeks after his death, health officials announced that swine flu was the cause of death and that this strain of flu appeared to be closely related to the strain involved in the 1918 flu pandemic. Alarmed public-health officials decided that action must be taken to head off another major pandemic, and they urged President Gerald Ford that every person in the U.S. be vaccinated for the disease.[44] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swine_Flu#1976_U.S._outbreak

This thing is so messed up... Everybody is running around in fear. But I say yes, if that huge district closes, why not yours?

best you can do is listen to the news to see if they are gonna close any schools.

They probably will cancel schools because of how serious this is i the south.

Maybe they should close your school, but unfortunately you can only be responsible for you and your actions, so make sure that: 1) If you do go to school that you wash your hands regularly (after touching common surfaces like handrails, doors, desks, pencil sharpeners) and 2) Keep your hands away from your face. 3) Eat a healthy balanced diet and 4) Exercise regularly. Healthy people have a better chance against the flu than unhealthy people.

OH no, a little flu. Let's all stop going to work and close down everything! Ha. Sorry, but some people have to work. Would you like it if all the Doctors stopped going to work? Or the people that are supposed to hand out tamiflu in case of an emergency? How about the police/fire workers? Get a grip, the flu is not that dangerous and you will be fine. Trust me :}

It's probably because of the testing. You guys will most likely close by next week.

Schools are trying to calm fears and assume "business as usual" attitude. I live in Brownsville, Texas where the first U.S death of swine flu was staying for almost 2 weeks and more cases of confirmed swine flu are currently being treated here and yet the school district not closing its doors (which makes no sense). Im guessing that since TAKS testing is underway, the Texas school districts are reluctant to closing because it would cause a delay in the mandatory curriculum. Your health is first and if you miss your test with the reason of health concerns then you are allowed to make it up at another time. There are hundreds of students not going to school here despite the fact that they are open but the district cannot reject them from taking the test later.
