Know any 24 hour/extended hour daycare in the fort worth, texas area good with children speech delays?
We have a 3 year old with speech delay. I am a working mother w/ 2 jobs and I go to school at night to be a RN. My husband and I have conflicting work hours and need a daycare that will give my son the help and attention that he needs and that we as parents can be confortable with. This is our only child and we want the best for him. Any suggestions?

Hi. Here in Fort Worth. Haven't heard of any daycares that are 24 hour. You might ask one of the daycares if they can reccomend one-you would know it would be someone licensed at the very least. My child used to Go to Daisy school and they're really nice there. Ask for Miss Lorenza, she is the director.

I don't know about 24-hour or extended child care, but I have some cousins in Ft. Worth, and one of them, and her dad, are in education (well, not in Ft. Worth, in Azle). They may know who you could contact. I don't know, is there a way you could send me a message on this thing if you wanted me to find out more, without my having to put my email address for all to see? My little boy had speech delays (he's five and still struggles a lot with language). Did you ever have your child tested with ECI (Early Childhood Intervention)? In Texas, ECI and local school systems work together to work with special needs children (even mild) from birth if they need it, all the way up until kindergarten and beyond. They'll evaluate your child, and determine at what level he is on all the points of development, then work out a plan of action with you. They offer speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and more, depending on what is needed. And unlike private therapy, it's free. ECI works with kids from infancy to three-years-old, and your local school district takes over once they're three. Depending on the need, the situation, how overworked the speech pathologist is, and the policies of the school district, some speech therapists will go out to whatever daycare your child is at. Since your son is three, you could contact ECI and find out what to do, or call the administration building for your local school district, and ask to speak with someone in the special education department, or to the speech pathologist. I mention that because I know how difficult it is to find a daycare for a child with special needs (particularly speech-related problems). We've found a good one (we're in Longview), but it's a regular 6-to-6 daycare, and he gets speech therapy during the day a few times a week. If you combine the sources of an extended hour daycare and the speech therapy of a local school, you may get the outcome you're looking for. I would imagine a lot of the extended hour daycares, while still good quality childcare, may not have the convenience you're needing (longer hours) AND someone who is really great with kids with speech delays. I know how stressful all that is. I'm just amazed, I know I'd have never had enough sanity to work two jobs, go to school, and have a preschooler. God bless!

Living in Fort Worth, Texas as a Muslim?
Hi there! I'm a Malaysia Muslim women enggaged with American and will be married in 4 months. We decided to stay in Fort Worth, Texas. So as a Muslim we want to know how is the situation there for us? Are we allowed to practice Islam? What about Halal food or restaurant? And Islamic school for our child (to be, insyaallah). I cant answer about schools, or retaurants. But just an FYI there are a lot of narrowminded people that live in the South. People that practice Christianity, and think anyone who is different is unAmerican

You are allowed to practice any religion you wish anywhere in America so long as it follows civil laws (which Islam does). There are mosques in every large American city and many smaller cities. You will encounter bigots and prejudice wherever you go, unfortunately, but most people in Texas are "live and let live". There are halal restaurants, most of them Pakistani owned- map http://www.zabihah.com/ls.php?id=79 I can find an insyaallah in Houston (which is- well, not close) to Fort Worth but in the same state. http://www.alhadi.com/ Hope this helps. Southerners are generally far better than their reputations, however, and actual studies and polls show that they're actually one of the most tolerant areas of the nation. (I live in Alabama, a southern state, in a small city of 250,000, and we have a mosque and a fairly large Islamic community [most of them military or refugees from Iraq and parts of Africa] and to the best of my knowledge they've had no problems.)

texas is not heavily populated with muslims. from the people i know, there are not many places to buy halal food. i suggest michigan or california or new york if you are lookking to find a muslim community.

For a redneck town like Ft. Worth, I don't think you will have much problems from the people. I know there are some mosque's somewhere, but don't remember where they are. There are a ton of middle eastern restaurants here and you will just have to find your favorite by visiting them. I know nothing about the school system as I am older and my kids are grown.

You are allowed to practice any religion you choose, I'd be kinda surprised if you couldn't find a Muslim friendly restaurant or market, no idea about schooling though. Just be warned, Texas isn't known for it's tolerant views on non-christians. You may have to deal with a few bigots

Hi! My friend dropped out of High School and is interested in getting her GED. Please no negative comments about how she is dumb, or she needs to go back to school. There are certain circumstances and I am not here for critisim i need serious answers only please!! She is in Fort Worth Texas and I have no idea how to help because I have my diploma and I am currently going to college.

Is the terrain of Fort Worth Texas flat enough to use a bicycle as a form of transportation?
Is the terrain of Fort Worth Texas flat enough to use a bicycle as a form of transportation?
So I'm moving to Fort Worth in August for Law School, and with gas prices as high as they are (and the added blow that my Nissan Frontier barely gets 20mpg and costs a small FORTUNE to fill up now), I've been considering using my old Mongoose cross trainer bicycle as an alternative to driving to and from campus. The apartments I'm looking at are close enough that I could successfully do it, and I'm wondering about the actual plausibility now. I'm not in the GREATEST shape, but given some practice and the time between now and the move I can get in the shape I need to be in to do the daily ride. My question is thus: is the terrain flat enough that I could conceivably DO this kind of commute, without a whole lot of toiling and sweating up hills? It wouldn't be good to walk into class with sweat pouring down my back and ruining my good suit or dress shirt :\ To respond to the person asking about walking: Not with a laptop, 3 classes worth of Law journals and books, and the heat/rain being that brutal IN A SUIT. Cycling additionally improves my overall health. Thanks for the answers so far ya'll!

Yes, I think it is flat enough. My brother lives in the Dallas area and is an avid cyclist. The Ft. Worth police ride bicycles all over the city to patrol, especially the downtown area. You'll get in great shape. One drawback though is that there is often a lot of rain in the spring so you might think about that. And the summer heat is brutal.

you might want to think about looking into the bus system for the" Dressed up too good for weather this bad "days. http://www.the-t.com/ The site is very busy because it includes airport stuff, handicapped buses(MITS), rail service, other city services. The student discount is for high school and under and a number of buses have a bike rack so you could ride the bike back. I think TCU students get a free pass from the school. As for the lay of the land, we would need to know which school.

Anyone know of any coaches...or places willing to host private volleyball lessons around Fort Worth, Texas?
I'm a junior and high school and the volleyball season is almost done, but me and 2 other girls on the team are planning on loading up on volleyball camps and stuff, and working out alot, so, I'm gathering information. I've already tracked down clinics at TCU. A coach would help us out sooo much more cause of the individual attention.

I don't know any coaches, but I've seen very good results from finding college athletes who want to earn extra money. The added advantage of getting a college student is they can answer your college questions as well. Mike Honeycutt
